VIA Inventory of Strengths-R (VIA-IS-R)
Aligned with the VIA Institute's mission to continue to advance the science of character, and in recognizing a number of opportunities to improve the original scales, Dr. Robert McGrath, VIA Senior Scientist, has completed a substantial, 2-year revision of the VIA Inventory of Strengths, as well as the development of several new scales. These new instruments are called the VIA Assessment Suite for Adults. A Technical Report describing the VIA Assessment Suite for Adults is available. The VIA-IS-R is the most extensive of the revised scales, consisting of 192 items that were selected based on content validity, reading level, internal consistency reliability, and differential correlation with other scales. To counteract acquiescence bias, both positively and negatively keyed items are included. Twenty-four scale scores are reported, as are 9 virtue scales and signature strengths.

VIA-IS-R Languages
The VIA-IS-R has been translated into the following languages: English, Arabic*, Armenian*, Bulgarian, Chinese-Simplified*, Chinese Traditional, Czech, Danish*, Dutch, German, Hebrew*, Hungarian*, Icelandic*, Japanese*, Korean*, Latvian*, Mongolian*, Portuguese (Portugal), Serbian*, Spanish* and Vietnamese*. The languages marked with an asterisk are still considered "in development" because not enough survey takers have completed it to determine if the translation is reliable. Languages without an asterisk have been reviewed and are considered reliable. Researchers should use caution when using a survey translation that has not been reviewed for reliability.
